Starting the middle of December 2016, the usual rainy winter changed. Every now and then the temperature dropped below freezing, and in the mornings we saw either a thin layer of ice or a little bit of snow on the ground. Of course, during the day everything was melted, but the next night it repeated again and again.
So when the forecast shows us upcoming winter weather at January 10, I expected the same thing. However, approximately at 6 pm thick snowflakes started to stick to the ground. The streets became empty, people were in hurry to get home before the roads will be covered with the snow. A lot of abandoned cars were left on the sides of the roads. According to the forecast, we were expecting about 4-6 inches of the snow, but in reality we faced all 12 inches.
That evening I couldn’t go to bed. The thought of winter magic settled up in my mind so around midnight I decided to go outside to make some winter shots. Holding my camera in one hand and the cat in the other, I opened the door and stood speechless. The quiet winter night was so beautiful. I put the cat in the snow (it was already pretty deep – up to her stomach so she blended in pretty well) I started making the photos and my pure creature was so shocked by all the changes that happened outside. She looked to the different directions with disbelief in her eyes but finally was brave enough to start moving towards the entrance door. And I stood near the house, listening the silence until l felt that I am freezing.
In the morning, after looking outside it was clear enough that we can’t go to work, so I grabbed my camera and hurried outside to make photos of the untouched snow.
When the kids woke up they reacted very differently. Kate stood in amusement and watched the falling snow with wide open eyes. Pavlik smiled but decided to have some breakfast instead. And Ira barely looked and hid under the warm blankets again. It is explainable – there was no school today, a rare opportunity to spend more time in bed than usual.

After breakfast kids put on some winter coats and boots and went to the neighbor kids to have a snowball fight and make a snowman.
All that week the temperature was below freezing day and night.
