After the wedding, the newly weds went on the honeymoon, and I stayed with my mom for a couple of days. But as usual, everything has an ending, so soon it was time for me to go back. However, since I’m already so far from home and alone – and that doesn’t happen very often, I decided to visit my friend in London instead of straight flying to US. So on Tuesday me and my parents exchanged good-bye kisses and I went to Miss Marple’s and Harry Potter’s motherland.
The flight was easy, we even were given yummy sandwiches. Later I noticed that bread in England is much better then in US. But I was worried a little about the meeting itself. The thing is, I didn’t have my friend’s phone number. Anyway, I thought, there will be free WiFi, right? I should be fine. So after we landed and I went through customs – to my surprise it didn’t take long. And the customs officer knew Russian, and even sang me a Russian song 🙂 So after all that, I was in the arrival area, and looked at my phone, but it didn’t want to connect to WiFi. At that moment the message from my carrier went through, saying that now for 10$ per day I will be able to make calls, send messages and use data for no extra charge. Well, it is nice, but my phone could’t connect to internet as well. So I started to call the free number and ask questions. The Customer Service specialist on the other end tried to help me, but no luck. By the way, did you try to verify you IMEI number while talking on the same phone? 🙂 Anyway, time goes by and soon I started to think that I need to book a room in hotel and use their WiFi maybe? At that time I finally spotted my friend, who was very surprised that I went through customs very fast – she expected it takes me about an hour, but in reality, it was about 10 minutes. So we went to the subway train to go to her home.
Next morning we realized that Madam Weather has it’s own plans for us and brought wind gusts and rain. Oh well, we went for a walk anyway. We went to look at Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Coca Cola London Eye.

When it became dark, we froze finally, and went to a small Italian restaurant to have some yummy food, deserts and spend some time in the warm room. After that, we decided to go for a walk to see London at night.

While planning this trip, I wanted to go to the Harry Potter Museum. But because I was uncertain in the days of flight, I didn’t book my ticket. So when the dates became clear, it was too late – no more tickets left in the date ranges while I’m in London. Upon arrival to the UK, I was upset a little, but later I realized that I was so tired already from all that time differences plus expressions from the city itself so it would be very hard for me to add a Harry Potter Museum here. Next time, I decided.
Next day we went for a walk again, despite the storm called Doris. The wind gusts were so strong that I was barely able to stand straight, even if I had additional weight – the backpack with my camera. But we went to British Museum and spent a good portion of the day there. Next we went to see the Tower Bridge and were surprised how packed the roads were. Something happened? – we thought. And only the next day Julia found out that because of the storm, the subway didn’t work almost all day. And very late in the night my mom called me, being very worried – it was told on TV that all flights were cancelled too. Oh, Doris!

During my stay I enjoyed the truly British pronunciation and they joked at my Russian-American one. And I finally rode the double-deck bus! Super exciting!
I’m so glad I visited London. And it will not be the only one time – I didn’t see the country, only the big city. And Harry Potter Museum as well 🙂
