I was very surprised and Ira said that her friends had asked her about Russian and she taught them one word or another. And they choose themselves which word they would like to know, like fish, for example.

That’s sounds very interesting so I start to ask questions and Ira told me some stories. Today her classmate wanted to call one boy “a pie” but made a mistake in pronunciation and called him “a doorstep” instead . Ira explained the difference and laughed hard. The girl liked the new word, added it to her dictionary and used it one more time later that day. Ira missed that moment so when she tried to figure out what word was used, girl said very proudly “Both!”

Ira said that her friends like Russian because sometimes very ordinary word sound very unusual. For example, the “potato” word. Try to imagine how proudly it sounds in Russian “I am a potato!” (Ya kartoshka). One friend of Ira says exactly like that: “I can say potato!”. Sometimes knowledge of Russian helps friends to says something to boys. Once girl said to the boy she didn’t like: “Poop-butt face”. He didn’t understood how exactly he was called but the sounds of that… The same with “Monkey butt”. If you hear that, then you know that she’s mad

Once about 6 months ago I’ve heard that Ira’s friend said in Russian “Good bye, Kitty” while hugging Ira.
