Part 39 here
Following our plan, we were heading to the middle of Utah, but before that we went to an interesting place. It was Mars Society Desert Reseach Station, where the imitation of living in Mars is created. We hoped to see someone outside and ask for a tour, but unfortunately, didn’t see people outside. The official training season starts in Semtember and ends in May, this is the time when every week a new team of six or seven volunteers come to the station. They are supposed to live there for a week, eat space food and wear a space suit every time they need to go outside. During that period visitors are welcome only if personnel could be seen outside. If there is noone outside that means that the training is in process.
Despite that the officional training season is not started yet we didn’t feel appropriate to knock to the door, so just observed the structures.

Entrance to the hub

Looks like they do some scientific researches outside?

I’m not sure, but it could be an observatory

After that we went to the Goblin Valley State Park. It was around 100F outside but we went for the walk, looking at the structures and wondering the nature’s fantasy.

We were about to leave the park but decided to go to the visitor center where I noticed awesome images of the canyon. After asking where it is located we’ve learned that it was a Little Horse Canyon and just several miles away from our location. We were warned, however, about 30% precipitation and were told to watch the sky. The canyon is very narrow and during the rains, dangerous flooding is very possible. When we came to the beginnig of trailhead and looked to the sky – it was bright and no clouds, that’s why we decided to go for a walk.

Yellow-walled canyon, isn’t it gorgeos?
We went up to the narrow part of the canyon and made some photos, but quick glance to the sky shows us clouds. So we turned back and by the time we came to the car the clouds became pretty dark. We did it on time!
Our next destination was Temple of the Sun. During the day it is an ordinary rock, but sunrays of the rising sun paint it to the very bright colors. We decided to spend a night nearby to be able to make a pictures of that rock. In the evening we made yummy sandwiches and later assemble the tent to spend the night here.

Maybe it was an castle in the past…

Just before the sunrise Andrey went to take pictures of the rock. After he came back me and Ira started making pancakes for breakfast. Appealing smell woke up the other kids and they showed up.

Hmmm, that yummy smell!

Our breakfast

After breakfast and cleaning everything up we went back to the civilization. Just before that we passed the Glass Mountain, it is a hill that consists of celenite crystalls.
