In the morning we decided to make another picture of the funny hotel chairs. During daylight they look even more like flowers with tongues 🙂

After the yummiest breakfast we headed to the Alps, to visit Eagle Nest, the residence of Adolf Hitler. The house was built in 1938 without any bedroom, the main purpose of the building was to have meetings there.
Now it is open for the visitors, but only the main floor, where the restaurant is located. It still has the original fireplace which was vandalized a little bit close to the end of the war.

Actually Hitler didn’t like to visit the Eagle Nest – he was afraid of heights and also had a fear that the elevator mechanism will be struck by lightning. And to be honest, that actually happened twice duty the construction, and the architect was very worried that Hitler will hear about it.
When we arrived at the top – by bus, on a very winding road, we went through the long, cold, wet endless tunnel until we reached the elevator that should bring us to the top, where the building is located. The elevator was very beautiful, but we were not allowed to take pictures inside. In total it goes up for 124 m.

It is interesting, that the building originally had a modern kitchen, equipped with electric appliances – it was very unusual for 1937. Strangely, the kitchen was never used for meal preparation – only for reheating of the ones that was cooked down in town.
Also an interesting fact that there were electrically heated floors that could warm up the building. However, they needed to be turned on about two days prior to the visit, to let the temperature rise up to likable levels.
We didn’t spent much time inside. Instead we went to walk a little and enjoy the surrounding views.

After that we decided to go to one bakery that we were strongly advised to visit by our neighbors. While driving we noticed a strange road sign. Puzzled, we tried to understand what it could mean and decided that people with black gloves should not stick their hand out of the car and shout.

And as for the bakery – it has really good cakes!
