This year, the traditional for New Vision Dance Center performance during Blazers Half Time took place next week after the Thanksgiving Day, and brought us a lot of disappointment.
Everything went wrong since the beginning. First were the tickets – NVDC has special reserved seats we are supposed to buy, but they were only first and second level side sections. The arena has three levels, and the cheapest are on the third level. Year after year I bought seats on the third level, since I’m not interested in the game itself and come only to watch my kids’ performance. Even dancers need the tickets to enter the building, plus when tickets are bought online there are different sorts of fees and surcharges added to the ticket cost. I need five tickets, so for non-fans it becomes very expensive. And now I had to find tickets myself – first and second level tickets are too expensive even on the side sections.
Next was the email about entrance rules. A lot of restrictions this year: all bags bigger that certain size are prohibited, and especially backpacks – no matter how small backpack is, even if smaller than the required sizes – are prohibited too. No cameras allowed with removable lenses – it is considered as ‘professional’, and no professional cameras are allowed. Come on, I was going to make pictures of my own kids for personal use! But no, camera is not allowed, go ahead and use cellphones.
As compensation, they said that us, parents, can go to the determined area on the first level to use our cells to take pictures of the kids. Well, I was there once several years ago and disliked that a lot. We were standing in the walk area, other people walked in front of us back and forth, and we saw dancers from the side – not a best angle to see each kid. A much better picture can be seen from the third level, when all dancers are visible and none of the other people walk between the kids and the camera.
But, unfortunately, I didn’t even have a possibility to make my own pictures since camera wasn’t allowed. Oh, and by the way, Blazers record the performance and sell the recording afterwards for 25 dollars. And the quality is awful, I heard a lot of complaints about the quality, for example, one year there were problems with the sound.
So after the performance I thought if all really worth it? A lot of money spent for the seats, a lot of nervous moments, and the result that brought the disappointment.
